Fortnite introduces Ballistic, a new game mode that takes inspiration from Counter Strike | Technology News

Battle Royale games like Players Unknown BattleGrounds (PUBG) have steadily declined in the last couple of years, but Fortnite has been able to stay afloat, thanks to Epic Games keeping things fresh by introducing new maps, themes and game modes almost every season.

As it turns out, the gaming studio has announced a new game mode that looks and sounds a lot like Counter-Strike and Valorant. In a blog post, Epic Games unveiled Ballistic, a 5v5 tactical competitive game mode where players are “sorted into two teams at the start of the match: attackers and defenders.”

Just like Counter-Strike, attackers are given a “reality-tearing Rift Point Device” aka, a bomb at any of the two sites on the map, while defenders have to defend the sites and prevent the ‘Rift Point Device’ from being planted or detonated.

Epic says the Rift Point Device detonates automatically 45 seconds after its planted, giving players the chance to move a bit further from the blast site to save themselves. At the start of every match, players on both teams have the option of choosing any one of the five ‘Flex Gadgets’, which only they will be able to purchase and use. This includes a Proximity Mine, Bubble Shield, Recon Grenade, Frag Grenade and the Impulse Grenade.

After six rounds, players will have to switch sides, meaning the defenders will now be the attackers. Epic Games says the team to win a total of 7 rounds will be the winner. At the start of the game, all players will be equipped with a ‘Ranger Pistol’ and given 800 credits. However, players can earn more credits by eliminating other players or by planting the device.

Festive offer

If you happen to survive a round, all your gear and shield will be carried over to the next one, but any consumables will be automatically removed. Players also have the option to drop weapons, smoke grenades and flashbangs for teammates or pick weapons from eliminated players.

For those wondering, all your existing Fortnite Outfits, Back Blings, Wraps, Kicks, Sprays and other things will be available in the new game mode as well. Fortnite’s new game mode offers both ranked and unranked experience, with ranked matches offering a grace three minute grace period for reconnecting in case you face any issues. Also, if you leave a ranked match mid-way, a penalty will be applied that prevents players from joining a match for a “”period of time.”

Epic Games says Ballistic will be available starting December 11 on all platforms and regions where Fortnite is supported. Initially, the game mod will have a single map named Skyline 10, but the developers will be adding more maps in the future.
