Riot Games, the gaming studio that introduced us to League of Legends and Netflix’s Arcane series is once again diving into the world of physical card games. Codenamed Project K the physical card trading game will be set in Runeterra and draw inspiration and champion designs from the League of Legends universe.

In the video, we can see that the game will be playable in the popular 1v1 trading card game (TCG) format, but Riot says it can also be enjoyed in groups of up to four players in teams of two. Similar to popular TCG titles like Magic: The Gathering or the digital card game Hearthstone, Project K will have a mana system which allows players to play two Runes every turn with an associated spell cost. The game is designed for players who like to play games face-to-face.

It also has social free-for-all models with which you build alliances and betray others. If you are not in the mood to play competitively, the game designers say players can also engage in friendly matches. The game designers also shared some examples of decks like Viktor’s strategy deck, Volibear’s brute force, and Yasuo’s much less aggressive strategy.

The company also plans to host events in local game stores to help build a community, with plans to later on host global tournaments later. Riot says Project K will initially be available in China, where it is working with an unknown partner to launch the game sometime in 2025. However, the company did not clarify when the game will be coming to other regions.
